This course focuses on scientific communication in a broader perspective/as a whole, providing tools and training for both oral and written scientific communication and is opportune for all (aspiring) researchers. The course is spread over 3 sessions of 2.5 hours with assignments in between. It starts off with the anatomy of a manuscript, including how to read a scientific paper, followed by Tips & Tricks regarding the writing of a scientific paper, ending with the basics of writing an abstract, the associated oral presentation and topped off with the one minute elevator talk. During the course assignments will be given; students will have to put in practice what they have learned. It is therefore recommended to already have a concept manuscript and oral-presentation. The course is intended for students, researchers, physicians, and other personnel within, and outside of, the AZP interested in all facets regarding scientific communication.

At the end of the course students should be familiar/able to:

  • critically appraise a scientific paper
  • write (different sections of) a scientific paper
  • address an audience (oral presentation)
